What is the best shower curtain rail dimension?
It's actually quite simple: The shower curtain rail should be smaller than the drainage area, so that the water flowing along the shower curtain also runs off in the area provided for it and the shower curtain does not touch the floor. So far so good...
In the example of a shower tray of a shower at ground level 120x120cm, tiled with a gradient of 1-2%, the side length of the shower curtain rod should be a maximum of 115x115cm. Take into account that the shower curtain hangs slightly wavy and a larger area must be covered than if it hangs smooth as in the ideal case.
The length of these shower curtain rods and the ceiling hanger can be easily adjusted on site with a metal saw to the required size. The ceiling hanger is delivered with a standard length of 50cm, which is sufficient for most bathrooms. Only in very high rooms, e.g. bathrooms in old buildings, the 100cm long ceiling hanger or a shower curtain rail with diagonal wall mounting can be useful. The length of the ceiling bracket should be dimensioned in such a way that the shower curtain projects approx. 15cm into the bathtub and, in the case of a floor-level flat shower, the distance between the lower edge of the shower curtain and the floor is 1-2cm. For classic shower trays with a 15cm high bar, the lower edge of the shower curtain should end in about half of the bar (measured in the shower tray).
For flat shower trays with a small 2-3cm bar, the position of the shower curtain bar must be determined with particular accuracy. The shower rod must spring back sufficiently. The shower curtain hem should hang lower than the bar and higher than the floor. For shower trays with a very wide and very flat bar, you should use a fixed shower enclosure or install a decent shower curtain-compatible shower tray.
What size needs a walk in shower at floor level?
If you still have influence on the bathroom planning, we recommend that you tile the shower drain as large as possible or install the largest shower floor element you can accommodate in the bathroom. It is best to tile the entire bathroom with a slope that allows the water to be collected in a controlled manner and drained safely. It does not matter whether a point drain or wall drain is used. Since you don't stand ankle-high in the water with very shallow shower trays, you won't notice a blocked drain as quickly as the water finds its way under the carpet, furniture, door and adjoining rooms.
In the case of shower trays that run down to zero, the shower curtain should not come too close to an only slightly pronounced edge of the shower tray. If you find a situation during a bathroom renovation, it is better to measure twice. In the best case, you will save costs and the choice of shower curtain and shower curtain rail will increase. In the long run, even a custom-made shower curtain is more expensive than a shower curtain rail installed at the right height.
Good luck!
